For Vintage Clothing and Accessories.
This fantastic outlet for unique vintage items from times past first opened in August 2006.
Susan Goodman, the owner, has ‘a passion for fashion’ which started in her teenage years when she made her own clothes. She even created her own Wedding outfit, including the hat and bag, all from black and grey velvet, teamed with black wedge shoes.
Susan was born in London and travelled extensively before settling in Weymouth in the 70’s. Although working for the Inland Revenue in Dorchester in the ‘swinging 60’s’, Susan also did 3 month stints in London, frequenting the Kensington Fashion stores, Bus Stop, Biba, Miss Selfridges and High Street Kensington Market. Susan also modelled for Trend Set, as this amazing photo of her at the time shows:

Unable to find clothes to her liking in modern stores, Susan developed a
passion for vintage clothes.
In the early 1980’s she opened ‘Bustles’ in Governors Lane
and ran it for three years buying from other Vintage shops in Bournemouth,
Brighton and Portobello Road in London. Here is Susan in a Biba
dress:
The Vintage Room is themed very much with Biba in mind. The elegant décor creates the perfect atmosphere; Susan both designed and sourced the interior herself, even obtaining the lights from a reclamation sale. The Great George window is set aside for funky wear whilst the Westham Road window displays vintage ‘gear’. Today her stock is sourced from vintage shops in London, American vintage websites and members of the public. Susan will also sell clothes directly for her customers. The Vintage Room offers an incredible choice of colourful clothes, shoes, bags and jewellery.

Susan is assisted by Scarlet, one of her daughters, and Louise, who both share Susan’s love of style and fashion and they would all love to see you at The Vintage Room. Visit them soon!
